Why are people really worried about 2012?

Why everyone is anxious about 2012, particularly 21 December 2012? They heard ghastly things regarding it, something similar to catastrophe, mega tsunami, earthquakes everywhere, meteors, etc. Maybe they’ve watched 2012 the movie, they usually become anxious about it.
