The species number about 60 evergreen epiphytic plants, which originate from high in the Andes of South America. Adored from the beginning of their introduction, the pristine white flowers of the splendid Odontoglossum crispum eamed them the name “Queen of Orchids”. They were so highly prized that demand led to their near extinction in the wild. Many superb varieties were grown that exist today only in the illustrations and descriptions of old publications.
