How does cranial therapy affect our health? There are twenty-six bones in the cranium (head) and they all move. The joints in the head are called sutures and they allow the bones of the skull to move. This movement is an expansion and contraction of the skull. The reason for this movement is to pump cerebrospinal fluid up and down the spine. This nourishes the spinal cord all the nerves that make up the nervous system. This action is similar to how the heart pumps blood to the rest of our system. Without good flow our nerves will not function properly leading to poor communication between the brain and body. The skull pumping motion also helps the lymphatic system, which is paramount for proper immune system function.
